YBS Foil-Tec Double 1m x 25m
YBS Foil-Tec Double is a high-performance insulating vapour control layer (VCL) designed to improve thermal efficiency while helping to manage moisture within the building envelope. Suitable for use in roofs, walls, ceilings, and floors, this versatile 2-in-1 solution combines reflective insulation technology with effective vapour control in a single product.
Fully approved by BDA Kiwa and NHBC, Foil-Tec Double is suitable for both new-build and refurbishment projects and can contribute towards improved EPC ratings when incorporated into a compliant insulation system.
Despite being less than 1mm thick, Foil-Tec Double delivers impressive thermal performance. When installed within wall applications and used in accordance with installation guidelines, it can achieve an R-value of up to 1.48 m²K/W, helping to reduce heat loss and improve overall energy efficiency.
Manufactured from durable, non-degradable materials, Foil-Tec Double is designed to maintain its thermal performance and structural integrity throughout its service life. This makes it a reliable long-term solution for enhancing insulation performance across a wide range of residential and commercial applications.
For effective vapour control, all joints and overlaps should be fully sealed using YBS Thermaseal Foil Joining Tape. When correctly taped and sealed, the product acts as a vapour control layer, helping to minimise the risk of interstitial condensation and moisture-related issues within the building structure.
Foil-Tec Double is also widely used alongside underfloor heating systems. To maximise reflective performance, we recommend using YBS Saddle Clips during installation. These help secure the insulation while creating the air cavity required for the reflective foil surface to function effectively.

How to Install Foil-Tec Single/Double on Floors

Roll out Foil-Tec
Start by rolling out Foil-Tec over the joists. It is recommend to roll the insulation perpendicular to the joists. Avoid cutting the length just yet, as the recess will use up extra material.

Create a recess with Saddle Clips
Saddle Clips are important for keeping the insulation fixed in place, but additionally to create an even air cavity. Install Saddle Clips over the joists, which fits Foil-Tec snug around the timber. We recommend 4 saddle clips per m2

Alternate method - using Staples
An alternate method if you wish to avoid Saddle Clips is to staple. Staple Foil-Tec down the joists, to create an air cavity. Tip - the further down the joists, the greater the thermal benefits! This is because an increased cavity will give an improved R-value.

Overlapping Foil-Tec
Overlap Foil-Tec by a min 50mm, however to a max of 100mm. This prevents any draughts. Ensure any overlaps are left un-taped. This allows any potential moisture build-up to properly escape.

Ensure Foil Tec is lipped up the walls
Around the perimeter, it is important to lip Foil Tec up the wall. It needs to be taken up by a min of 50mm. This will generally be then hidden by chipboard and skirting board. This is to prevent any draughts. Follow with Thermaseal Foil Tape around the perimeter.

Finish by installing Chipboard
Once all the insulation is fixed down and recessed, you are now ready to install your finished floorboards.
