You may be shocked to know that approximately 25% of the heat generated by your boiler will escape through your home’s roof. Without adequate insulation 10% of the heat, you’re paying for will dissipate through the floor. Additionally, a further 35% were through cracks in and around window and door frames.

This is less of a problem during the summer months, however during the cold winter months when it’s more important to keep your home warm and toasty. You need to take every precaution to protect the heat you’re paying for. You can’t let it escape through poor insulation or cracks around windows and door frames.

Draughts affecting your heat retention?

Draught proofing is highly recommended by the Energy Saving Trust. Also, Any breaches in the insulation of your home that allow warm air to escape should be sealed up. You do have to be cautious in places that require sufficient ventilation. Firstly Sealing any cracks around window and door frames will help prevent cold air from entering your house. Additionally, any cracks in the walls should be filled.
