Here at Multifoils Direct, we have created an EcoPro Under Rafter Insulation Kit, that you can install easily directly to the underside of your Roof Rafters.
Once the multifoil insulation has been fitted – your home will be more energy efficient. So, rather than your heat escaping directly above you, your heat energy will be reflected back into your home and the cold will be reflected away.
The EcoPro Under Rafter Insulation Kit is affordable and is a fantastic investment. It includes everything you will need to complete the installation yourself and to start making savings.
What’s Included in the EcoPro Under Rafter Insulation Kit?
- The EcoPro Multifoil – EcoQuilt Expert 1.5 x 10m (15m²)
This is a High Performing Multifoil Insulation. Performance wise, this product is equivalent to 50mm of Rigid Board Insulation (such as Kingspan / Celotex). In comparison to Fibre Insulation, it also equates to around 100mm.
Our EcoPro Under Rafter Insulation Kit is commonly used by installers as well as homeowners, as the Multifoil Insulation is just 15mm thick. It is also really flexible and easy to install.

Scissors suitable for cutting Multifoil Products – as we want to make the whole installation process as easy as we can for you.

How to Insulate Under Rafter

Cut the Material Required
Measure the amount of material required for your first strip and cut. It is most common for customers to insulate horizontally, but the choice is yours.

Staple the Multifoil in to Place
Staple the Multifoil to the underside of the Roof Rafters. We advise stapling every 300mm to ensure that the material is held securely in to place. Pull the material nice and straight where possible, to keep it neat and also to make the cutting process easier for you too.

Install your Second Layer...
When installing your second layer, overlap the material on to the former layer by 50mm. Continue insulating until you have full coverage, following the above instructions.

Finish as you please!
You may wish to leave the insulation exposed - which is fine. However, it is quite common for customers to nail / screw battens into place before boarding - if they are wanting to create a usable room. This is not required but is popular option.

If you would like to double the performance, you can!
You can double the performance by installing two layers. To save on space, you recess the first layer to the side of the roof rafter. This way you still have an air cavity behind the product, but you also have an air cavity between the first and the second layer too.

Can I double up on the insulation?
Yes, you can do two layers of the EcoQuilt Expert Insulation. We recommend using a 25mm wooden batten over the first layer of insulation and attaching the second layer to the wooden battens. Or if the rafters of your loft are long enough you can recess the first layer of insulation into the rafters and then the second layer can sit across the rafters.
What should I use to cut the insulation?
In this kit, we provide a pair of 10” multifoil insulation scissors which are perfect for the job.
Do I need to overlap the insulation?
Yes, you do need to overlap the insulation otherwise you won’t get the best thermal performance. We don’t recommend taping and sealing the insulation in this application so overlapping the insulation will stop any draughts from getting in and warm air from escaping.
Will the foil insulation cause any problems with damp?
No, actually this will help prevent damp and mould and it’ll help reduce the risk of condensation.
Can I board over this insulation?
Yes, you can board over this insulation by adding wooden battens over the top of the insulation and attaching what you’d like to board over with to the wooden battens.
Do I need any specific PPE to complete this job?
No, you don’t need any protective clothing, masks, or safety goggles as there are no harmful fibres in the insulation.
